DCO presents ‘Touch of Class 2022’ Sat. May 14 at DEFThe Desert Community Orchestra (DCO) continues its 2022 concert season with its “Touch of Class 2022” Concert Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 4:00 pm. The performance will be held in the Desert Empire Fairgrounds Joshua Hall. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. Masks are highly encouraged, but not required.

The concert will feature two young artists, flutist Deanna Belt, and vocalist Geoffrey Brown.

The orchestra will also be performing Georges Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1. This masterpiece is undoubtedly Bizet’s most famous work. It continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Bizet, unfortunately, was not able to experience its full impact in his time. He died June 3, 1975, just three months after Carmen’s premiere.

The program will include Eine Steppenskizze, or In The Steppes of Central Asia, by Alexander Borodin. In this solemn and moving composition Russian and Asiatic melodies join in a common harmony. It is possible to image horses, camels and soldiers on the march. As the long caravan approaches it continues through an immense desert valley as the music slowly fades away in the distance.

Conductor Robert “Robby” Martinez, from Bakersfield Community College, will be conducting the Desert Community Orchestra through these wonderful pieces. He has been leading the local orchestra since 1994. “It’s wonderful to be back in a live setting to direct these talented young artists, Deanna and Geoffrey,” comments Robby. “You’ve got to experience the joy and excitement they bring to the stage. These pieces feature their musical abilities ever so well! And our community orchestra is smaller, yet tighter this season. You can’t miss this concert!”

Concert General admission is $10, student/military $5, under 7 years and Military in uniform FREE!! Presale tickets are available now at www.eventbrite.com. Events in Ridgecrest will pop up if searched from Ridgecrest. Donations are greatly appreciated and assist in covering the many operating expenses associated with the orchestra.

The DCO greatly appreciates Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union, and other sponsors, for their generous support of the orchestra.
