Extremely high winds roared through the Indian Wells Valley and Sierra Nevada Canyons Monday. The winds caused property damage that included huge limbs torn form many local trees. On Highway 14, between the 178 West turnoff and Pearsonville, a semi tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle were reported overturned.

The National Weather Service, issued a High Wind warning on Sunday afternoon for gusts up to 70 mph in the Mojave Desert slopes Monday afternoon through Monday night, and residents were advises to stay in the lower levels of their home and avoid being near windows during the storm.

The Sierra Nevada Mountain canyons experienced excessively high winds. Indian Wells Canyon, had winds gusts up to 110 mph while gusts up to 102 mph were reported in Bird Springs Pass. Jawbone Canyon had gusts upwards of 85 mph.

In Ridgecrest, and the Indian Wells Valley, winds speeds were reported to exceed 50 mph. The Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, had wind speeds in excess of 70 mph were reported.

The storm warning ran from 11 a.m. Monday through 3 a.m. Tuesday. It includes Red Rock Canyon with a distance as far way as Las Vegas Valley.
