Rescuers search Kern River for missing 9-year-old boyBy LAURA Austin

News Review Staff Writer The Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) was dispatched Saturday, April 2, at about 2:18 p.m. with information that a juvenile had been swept away into the Kern River around Keysville, an unincorporated community located about two miles west of Lake Isabella.

The juvenile had been in the water for about 20 minutes before KCSO was notified.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, several juveniles went into the river in knee to calf-deep water while an adult family friend supervised. The juvenile, a 9-year-old boy, slipped and fell into the river and the family friend jumped in after him but was apparently unable to reach the boy.

Over the weekend, members of the China Lake Mountain Rescue Group (CLMRG) contributed to the search efforts along the Kern River for the boy. The boy was reported missing Saturday afternoon.

In addition to KCSO and CLMRG, additional teams were sent on Saturday and Sunday, searchers from Kern Valley, Kern County Fire helicopter, and Bakersfield searched on and along the River.

The child has not been located and the search operations are ongoing.
