Apparent accidental discharge of firearm kills Inyokern woman

Monday evening at 7:48 PM emergency medical responders were dispatched via a 911 call to the 8800 block of Neal Ranch Road for a medical emergency.

Kern County Fire Department engines 74 and 73, Liberty Ambulance and Kern County Sheriff’s Office responded. Upon arrival the responders found an adult female with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Medical personnel performed lifesaving measures but the women succumbed to her injuries.

The women had apparently been handling a firearm when an apparent discharge occurred striking the women in the chest. According to The Kern County Sheriff’s Office, a postmortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause and manner of death.
