At approximately 11:15 am Tuesday morning, January 25, the Ridgecrest Police Department, Kern County Fire Department and Liberty Ambulance were dispatched to Shamrock Salvage yard, for reports of an employee stuck beneath a vehicle.

Upon arrival RPD officers located an unresponsive male victim lying on the ground with CPR in progress. The owner of Shamrock had apparently used a front loader to remove a truck that had fallen on the man.

After an initial assessment officers canceled life-saving efforts as they determined obvious signs of death. Further investigation indicated that the man had been trapped for up to 30-45 minutes.

Due to this death occurring in the county and not suspected as being a crime, the Kern County Fire Department rather than the Kern County Sheriff Office was requested at the scene to assume the investigation. Official cause of death is awaiting completion of the Coroner’s investigation. Identification of the victim and further details are still under investigation.
