Sabaa Tahir (BHS 2000) comes full circle at the UCLA bookstore

Sabaa Tahir (BHS 2000) comes full circle at the UCLA bookstoreBruce Auld, a former Sierra Sands Unified School District Superintendent, is writing the history of Burroughs High School. The articles that are being published are excerpts from his upcoming book, exclusive to The News Review.

The last 10 days, Sabaa Tahir says it has been difficult, she had been in Los Angeles with a hospitalized family member.

But today she said “I had the morning away from the hospital so I went to UCLA, where I did my undergrad. Haven’t been back in a decade and walked past this display in UCLA store twice before I saw it.” (books she has authored)

“I went to the bookstore so much while in school. The books section used to be much bigger, and I’d roam around for ages. I was a scholarship/grant/work study kid so I’d pine after all the books I wanted. I didn’t know what I wanted to be at that age. A journalist, maybe or an academic. I had no clue.

So it is really crazy to see my books here at UCLA. I can’t believe that all these years later, that is a real thing that happened. It boggles the mind.” (A recent Facebook post)

Sabaa graduated from Burroughs in 2000. She is a New York Times Best Selling novelist in the young adult/fantasy genre. Tahir’s first novel, An Ember in the Ashes, was published on April 28, 2015, a New York Times best seller.
