Debra “Debbie” Cornelius

Debra “Debbie” CorneliusDebra “Debbie” Cornelius passed away unexpectedly at her home in Ridgecrest, CA on September 24, 2021. Debbie was born on March 25, 1954 to Gladys and Marvin Cornelius in Hastings, Nebraska. She spent 4 years in Nebraska before moving with her family to Utah. A few years later her dad accepted a government job in San Diego, CA where they lived until 1963 when the family was transferred to China Lake Naval Base located in Ridgecrest, CA. It was then that Debbie’s love for horses started. She began riding and competing in local gymkanas and horse shows as often as she could. She entered and won the Ridgecrest Rodeo Queen contest in 1971. She also competed in the Miss Ridgecrest China Lake Beauty Pageant. Debbie graduated from Burroughs High School in 1973 with a major in Business. She had many talents she soon discovered when she moved back to Utah. Debbie began a career as one of the first women in Utah to receive her CDL in the early 1980’s. She got a job driving an 18 wheeler and loved it. She became one of the best driver’s and was often called on by FedEx and UPS to back up their triple trailers to the warehouse docks. Something only she had the talent to do at the time. She worked on major projects like Lake Powell and Intermountain Power, later she would then accept a job with Valley Asphalt as a dump truck driver on “The A-Team”, she worked there for 10+ year’s retiring due to medical issues, which led her back to her love of horses where she then started training and breeding them. She took pride in everything she did including her work. Debbie was a very loving, dedicated mother and grandmother, wonderful sister, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law and friend. She will be truly missed by all. She is preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Gladys Cornelius. She is survived by her daughters Shanna (Jamie), Rainy (Mack), her brothers Melvin (Laurie), Rick (Margaret), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial will be held at Lyons Mortuary on 11 December 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Celebration of Life will be at Casa Corona at 12:00 following Graveyard Service.
