Historic USO Building classic movies and open mic return

Historic USO Building classic movies and open mic returnHUSMD Nick Rogers–

Classic Movie Night at the Historic USO Building, is making its comeback after the long hiatus due to the pandemic.

On Wednesday, December 22, at 7 p.m., enjoy a much newer classic, presented for the first time on the Joe Fox Auditorium screen...1983’s warm and nostalgic tale of Ralphie, who just wants a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas...despite the warning: “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!” Go back in time to a 1930’s small town in Indiana and follow the adventures of Ralphie, his little brother, Randy, Schwartz, Flick and the evil Scott Farkus, as they trudge their way through schoo, anctiously awaiting the magic Christmas Holiday. You’ll visit the massive Higbee department store (actually in downtown Cleveland,Ohio) for a memorable visit with a scary Santa, join the Ovaltine Club, and experience the disappointment of receiving a nightmarish pink bunny suit from a well-meaning aunt. And, you will meet Ralphie’s “old man”, who wrestles with his car, electrical outlets, the noisy furnace and the neighbor Bumpus’ wild dogs. Oh, yes... his major award, the leg lamp, a copy of which has stood proudly in the Historic USO Building lobby (albeit in a smaller version) for the last 12 years figures prominently in the film, which features Darren McGavin, Melinda Dillon, and Peter Billingsley as Ralphie. The brilliant narration (Ralphie as an adult) is provided by the story’s author Jean Shepherd. Future series coming up in 2022 include: “BLACKfilm part 2: the Films of Sidney Poitier, and “Awesome Audrey’”, featuring six of the legendary Audrey Hepburn’s finest performances.

Titles and dates are available on fliers located in the Historic USO Building lobby. The SuperStar Snack Bar opens at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy, once again, our famous 1/4 pound all-beef “Crumville” Hot Dog, 4-cheese pizza, fresh hot coffee, tasty Coca-Cola brand products, frosty ice cream cups, a variety of chips, and bagged and boxed candy. Piping hot, fresh-popped corn will be served for FREE on opening night! Admission is, as always, a suggested $2 donation. (Please note: the wearing of protective masks is highly recommended.)
