Bettye Elizabeth Sembach

Bettye Elizabeth SembachOne of God’s saints quietly left Ridgecrest to be with her Lord this past April 2021. Many may know Bettye Elizabeth Henderson Rivera Sembach, who lived 94 years. She served as a dedicated third grade teacher here in Ridgecrest at St Ann’s, Vieweg and Las Flores schools, then for adults at the community collage.

Born July 11, 1927, one of Bettye’s highlights of her youth was the chance to meet Martin Luther King, Jr., who visited her birth home in Georgia. After high school, Bettye graduated with a B.S. in Education from Bethune-Cookman University in Florida. While teaching there she met and married Navy man, Luis Miguel Rivera, who was soon stationed at China Lake Naval Base. Their son, Luis Jr., was born there.

After their divorce, Bettye married Albert Sembach who already had three children, Lynn, Jerry and Cheryl.

Committed to furthering her education Bettye commuted to Pepperdine University to earn her masters. With this degree she taught Business Administration for Cerro Coso Community College.

Bettye’s Memorial Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 25, at 10AM at Calvary Chapel. Afterwards there will be a potluck chicken dinner provided. Please bring a side dish. Pastors Larry Cox and Levi Woodhouse will officiate.
