Florence Morphis

Florence MorphisFlorence Morphis, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Aug. 27, 2021, at High Desert Haven.

She was born Dec. 17, 1930, in Bolivar, PA. She grew up in Bolivar, PA., and was there until she moved to California in 1955. It was there that she met her husband Carl Morphis and they were married in 1961.

She worked at American Potash and Chemical Corp. in Trona, CA. as a Telephone Operator for almost 20 years. She then moved to Ridgecrest and worked for Contel Telephone Co. until they closed in the 1980’s.

Florence had a big family and was the matriarch for the family here in California. She was known and loved for her wonderful cooking, and she opened her home to everyone. There were many family gatherings at her home. She came from a family of twelve children, and her brothers loved gathering in her little kitchen in Trona when she was cooking. When we had gatherings at the house, lots of children lined-up on the living room floor to spend the night.

She attended the Foursquare Church in Trona, and The First Baptist Church in Ridgecrest until she fell ill with dementia. Her faith was very strong and she handed that down to her children.

She is survived by her children: Michael (Joyce) Boske, Kathleen Magnani, Rebecca (Keith) Dieball, and April Morphis; and grandchildren: Joseph Boske, Carl Boske, Dino Brown, Jenny Lichtenfels, Rachel Zarazinski, and Ryan Dixon, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Leah Wise, her husband Carl Morphis, and all of her siblings: Mary Palmer, James Wise, Daniel Wise, Dorothy Alter, Wilbert Wise, Harriet Mikkelson, Alice Milak, John Wise, Betty Boske, Donald Wise, and Leroy Wise.

A memorial service will be held on September 9 at 10 a.m. at Holland & Lyons, 216 S. Norma St.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

A special thank you to all of the caregivers and staff at High Desert Haven for the wonderful care of our Mother.
