County encourages local involvement in the redistricting process

Kern County invites community to participate in redistricting process and a public hearing.

This year Kern County will undergo the process of redistricting in accordance with the 2020 U.S. Census data. Redrawing district lines to reflect Kern’s current population is vital to ensuring each district is representative of the constituents that live therein.

Next week, Kern County will hold a redistricting public hearing and is asking community members, stakeholders, and organizations to attend. Kern County recognizes its obligation to residents and values accessibility to Kern’s community when it comes to this complex conversation.

Another way to participate in the redistricting process is by drawing maps. The United States Census Bureau will deliver the demographic information essential to the redistricting process by September 30, 2021

The public is encouraged to practice utilizing the County’s map-drawing software.
