The Ridgecrest community and the world was shocked by the words of Blink-182 bassist and singer Mark Hoppus earlier this summer when he announced: “I have cancer.”

The Ridgecrest native and global pop punk star has been sharing updates with his fans through his social media accounts and Twitch channel as he undergoes chemotherapy treatments to fight his diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

“It’s entered enough parts of my body that I’m stage 4,” Hoppus announced earlier this month on a Twitch stream.

Hoppus pointed out that it was the same form of cancer that his mom was diagnosed with. “And she beat it, so I’ve been able to bond with her quite a bit.”

Prior to lymphoma, Hoppus’s mother beat breast cancer twice. “Scans indicate that the chemo is working!” he announced on his Instagram page on July 19. “I still have months of treatment ahead, but it’s the best possible news...the poison the doctors pump into me and the kind thoughts and wishes of people around me are destroying the cancer.”
