“Sierra Sands is really pleased to announce that we reached agreement with our bargaining units, our associations, and have complete agreement on our schedule for the return of in-student instruction for all students in our district,” reports Dr. Dave Ostash, Superintendent of Sierra Sands Unified School District.

“We already had an agreement for a return to elementary on Monday, April 5 and now we have both of our high schools, Burroughs and Mesquite, starting on Thursday, April 8, Murray and Monroe Middle Schools starting on Monday, April 12.”

This is a change for high school seniors who were originally returning on Monday, April 5. It was decided that it was best for everyone to return to high school on the same day.

“We are in a tentative agreement, it is depending upon a vote of ratification for the bargaining units and the school district board. We are proceeding in anticipation of all sides ratifying.”

“We are really excited,” Ostash continues. “It is a great deal for all of us and we are looking forward to filling our schools and classrooms with students whose families elect to have them return in person.

All of these dates and plans and agreements have always included families still having the choice for the rest of this school year to remain in distance learning if that is the best option for the family.”
