The Ridgecrest Police Department is holding another DUI checkpoint tonight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. the following morning.

The department’s DUI saturation patrol over Labor Day weekend netted 22 arrests – 11 of which were for impaired driving. According to an RPD release, there were nine arrests for driving under the influence of drugs and two for a combination of alcohol and drugs.

So far this year, twenty people have been injured in DUI collisions within RPD jurisdiction.

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests and are not disclosed ahead of time.

The RPD reminds the public to stay vigilant against DUIs as more and more bars and restaurants resume operations. Funding for these programs are provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
