AT&T outage disrupts emergency services, distance learningCrews work at a site on the corner of China Lake Boulevard and Dolphin Avenue, where a cut cable apparently triggered an outage for AT&T cellular customers. The loss in service impacted emergency phone numbers for the Indian Wells Valley and Trona areas. Hundreds of students in the Sierra Sands Unified School District were also reportedly knocked offline by the loss of service, which impacted MiFi devices to assist with student internet access. Unofficial reports about the cause and timeline for restored service were not available early Thursday afternoon, about 8 hours after service was initially lost. Residents trying to reach the Ridgecrest Police Department for emergencies can call temporary numbers at 760-499-9611 and 760-499-9651. Officials are asking anyone with non-emergency calls and requests to wait until regular phone lines have been restored. — Photo by Laura Austin
