Darylene Johnson

Darylene JohnsonDarylene Johnson passed away Aug. 9, 2020, at her home in Ridgecrest after succumbing to respiratory failure. She was 77.

Darylene grew up in Arvin. She graduated from Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene University) in 1966 with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught kindergarten for two years, and was a substitute teacher in the IWV for about 15 years. She loved camping and traveling, and she and her husband Earle visited all 50 states. They went on cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the Panama Canal. They also visited most of the Canadian provinces.

She was an active member of the Ridgecrest Church of the Nazarene, led a Kid’s Club at church on Wednesday evenings for many years, worked in the church nursery, and sang in the choir. She ran a free lending library for church and other friends from her personal collection of over 600 Christian fiction books. She was a member of TOPS for several years in the 1970s, and bowled with her husband in a league at China Lake.

Darylene in survived by her husband, Earle F. Johnson, daughters Nancy Johnson and Amanda Chapman, son Marcus, granddaughter Emily Chapman, son-in-law Chris Chapman, and brothers Donald and Dwight Denney. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.

A Memorial Service will be held at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel Friday, Aug. 21, at 9 a.m. The service will be officiated by Pastor James L. Goss & Pastor Ken Lewis.
