A collision on US Highway 395 early Thursday morning left one dead and another injured according to a release from the California Highway Patrol Mojave office. The accident occurred around 2:10 a.m. just south of the South China Lake Boulevard exit.

According to the release, Calvin Everhart of San Fernando, Calif., was driving northbound in a Hino box truck while Luis Valdes of Hesperia, Calif., was headed south in a Freightliner truck. For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles collided head on.

Everhart, 53, succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. Valdes, 41, was transported to Kern Medical Center for major injuries.

Further details were not available at press time. The Mojave CHP office asks anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Officer Chitty at 661-823-5500.

“The California Highway Patrol would like to remind everyone to properly wear seat belts and ensure all passengers are properly wearing their seat belts,” said the release.
