The Indian Wells Valley will be treated to a fireworks display Saturday evening, July 4, at 9 p.m., Courtesy of Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. While base access is still restricted, the display is open to anyone with an unobstructed view of the sky over Northeastern Ridgecrest.

“To celebrate Independence Day, and the resiliency of Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and our local community from last year’s major earthquakes and our current pandemic, we are excited to announce an installation fireworks viewing event!” said a release from NAWS China Lake.

While there was originally a plan in place for those with base access to park at the Mirror Dry Lake Bed, NAWS announced at press time that this opportunity was no longer available – due to recent directives released by the U.S. Navy. The NAWS China Lake gates will maintain normal operation hours.

Fireworks will be launched over base property near the back (Richmond) gate, and many spectators will be able to watch from their own homes. The Ridgecrest Police Department is discouraging viewers from parking on the shoulder of East Ridgecrest Boulevard/Highway 178, citing safety concerns.

“I suggest the many miles of open desert that is around the County Line Road and Richmond Road areas may be more appropriate,” said Capt. Justin Dampier.

The fireworks display will be accompanied by a soundtrack – which will be vailable through your FM dial at KSSI 102.1 or QLITE 92.7.
