Trona hires new superintendentThe Trona Joint Unified School District Board of Education announced at its June 4 meeting the hiring of Dr. Jairo Arellano, who will serve as the new superintendent.

“This was the culmination of an extensive search that began in March,” said a spokesperson. Arellano will begin serving July 1.

His professional experience includes serving as assistant superintendent of whole-child education for the Alisal Union School District, executive director of English language services for the Oxnard School District, 12 years as principal, four years as an assistant principal and 15 years as a classroom teacher.

He holds a Ph.D. in education leadership afrom the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also holds masters degrees in education from UCSB and in educational administration from California State University, Northridge.

“Dr. Arellano’s passion for the success of each student has been an asset in his career,” said Priscilla Benadom, board president.

“His extensive training, successful administrative and teaching experience combined

with his energy, vision and passion for the educational success of every child makes his coming to Trona the beginning of a bright, new and exciting era for the Trona Joint Unified School District and for the community.”
