John A. Thompson

John A. ThompsonJohn Allen Thompson III of Trona passed away May 30, 2020, surrounded by family and love, after a two-year battle with cancer.

For almost 66 years, John shared his spirit in this world with true authenticity and compassion. Born in Prescott, Ariz., on July 26, 1954, John moved to Northern California as a boy and graduated from Elk Creek High School in 1972.

After meeting his future wife, Darla Hughes, and getting married in 1977, they moved to Fall River Mills to start their family. Fall River was their home town for 15 years. An opportunity at CR Briggs mine brought the family to Trona in 1998.

Like it was in Fall River, John’s neighborly demeanor and giving nature was quickly embraced by the community and the Thompson’s created a new home town for the years to come. After 9 years with CR Briggs, he joined the Searles Lake Mine Development crew at Searles Valley Minerals where he worked and made lasting friendships until his retirement in August 2019.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Darla; daughters Andrea (Ryan) and Samantha (Adam); son John (Kimberly); grandchildren, Abigail, Kiara, Kenadie, Cortland, Nash, and Kaelyn; sisters, Lee (Greg) and Shelley (Joe); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Jack, mother Pauli, and father-in-law Leon.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Trona Elks Lodge on Saturday, June 13, at 1 p.m. Come join family and friends to celebrate John, remember when his path crossed yours, and appreciate those memories created thereafter.
