An accident on U.S. Highway 395 claimed two lives on Sunday, June 7, according to a release from the Kern County Coroner.

According to a release from the California Highway Patrol Mojave Office, Morlan Liu and Charles Cruz — 39-year-old residents of Irvine, Calif. — were headed southbound on US-395 driving a Porsche Cayenne. Matthew Hagerman and Melissa Ann Martinez — 53-year-old residents of Riverside, Calif. — were traveling northbound driving a Ford Ranger.

For reasons still under investigation, the vehicles collided after one of the vehicles crossed over the center lines. Hagerman and Martinez reportedly succumbed to their injuries sustained as a result of the collision and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Liu and Cruz both suffered minor injuries and were transported to Antelope Valley Hospital.

This collision is still under investigation and anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Officer Dabbs at the CHP Mojave Office at 661-823-5500.
