Janet Ella Scott Long

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Janet Long on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, just three months shy of her 100th birthday. She passed peacefully in her sleep.

Janet was born in Springdale, Ark., on Aug. 19, 1920. She married Earnest T. Long on Feb. 14, 1940. Earnest passed away on Nov. 19, 1992.

Janet and Earnest came to Ridgecrest in 1946. While Earnest worked on the base, Janet was busy raising her twin daughters. When they got older she went to work at China Lake from Dec. 4, 1951, until Oct. 14, 1980, when she retired.

Janet is survived by her daughters Janice Hagadorn (Pat Jensen) and Janet Reyes (Fred Reyes). She also had three granddaughters Thalia Hagadorn, Larra Reyes and Janae Reyes; one great-grandson Doug Camarillo; and one great-great-granddaughter Shane Camarillo.

Janet loved visiting and playing cards with her friends. She was an avid reader. She also loved going to the casinos to play her favorite slots.

Although she is dearly loved and will be greatly missed, we know that she is at peace.

Janet was cremated, as was her wish. A graveside service will be scheduled at a later date.
