NAWS gaterunner dies in collisionThe Naval Air Weapons Station’s public affairs office announced Wednesday, at 7:30 a.m. that morning, that a driver was killed in an unauthorized attempt to gain access at the main gate of China Lake.

“The final denial barrier was deployed and the vehicle struck the barrier at a high rate of speed,” said Margo Allen of the NAWS PAO. “Emergency personnel responded to the incident and the scene has been secured.

“There was one fatality involving the driver of the vehicle.”

As a result of the incident, the main entrance to the base has been closed.

“NAWS China Lake remains mission capable,” stated Allen.

“The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.”
