Theodore C. Kruse

Theodore Clair “Ted” Kruse passed away at home in Grants Pass OR on April 11, 2020 from mantle cell lymphoma.

Ted was born November 13, 1946 in Pocatello, Idaho, to Hazel and Ted Kruse.

In 1953, his family moved to Ridgecrest-China Lake Naval Weapons Center, where he and his brother and sisters had a magical childhood. He attended Bakersfield Junior College, Pharmacy School and Medical School at the University of California, San Francisco and served an Internship and Internal Medicine Residency at Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco.

Ted and Helen Sweetman married in 1976 in Mill Valley. Ted practiced emergency medicine in Crescent City and at Josephine Memorial Hospital in Grants Pass for 17 years, then practiced urgent care medicine in Grants Pass and occupational medicine in Bend, retiring in 2016.

Ted had many hobbies, including golfing, dog showing, bowling, skiing, landscaping, making stained glass objects, building and shooting model rockets, hiking, camping, rock climbing, ice climbing, and mountain climbing. In 2016, Ted achieved his goal of climbing all of the major Cascade volcanoes by making it to the top of Glacier Peak in Washington. All his friends in Grants Pass recognized him driving his blue 1973 Chevy van.

Ted is survived by his wife, Helen, daughters Marlow (Tyler) Townes and Renee (Eric) Bend, granddaughter Parker Townes, grandsons William Townes and Felix Bend, mother Hazel Kruse, brother Rob (Donna) Kruse, sisters LuAnne (Gary) Brannies, Janeen (Kevin) Johansen, Kathy (Tony) Best and many nieces and nephews. He loved them all SO much and they loved him. No services are planned at this time.
