How are you spending your quarantine?

How are you spending your quarantine?Dixie Risden, a 17-year-old junior at Burroughs High School, is using her time under quarantine in teaching herself to paint. “I have never taken an art class, ever, in school,” she said. But, “I was luckily gifted with my mom’s incredible creative abilities. She drew inspiration for her “Vision in Gold” (pictured here) from Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam,” but she also chose the project for herself because the hands allowed her to focus on improving her shading abilities and her subtle manipulation of hue. “My attention to art has really flourished during this time because I have so much more free time now than I did in school,” she said. “With the shelter-in-place order, and not really knowing what’s happening with COVID-19, I’m able to use art to feel in control of something. It’s also very calming and makes me proud to see what I can do with pencil and paint.” Her latest creation will hang alongside some of her other works in the family home “because mom mom loves to see my art.” She is the daughter of Jon and Bambi Risden, and sister to Tristan and Daisy. — Photo by Rebecca Neipp
