Shirley Sima

Shirley Sima died Tuesday March 17, 2020 at Pomona Valley Hospital. She was 90 years old. She was a resident at Oakmont Assisted Living in Chino Hills, Calif.

Shirley was born to John and Helen (Halverson) Schwager in Newman Grove, Neb. on Nov. 14, 1929. She was the youngest of 5 children. On Jan. 20, 1951, she was united in marriage to Frank Sima.

She attended country school District 62, from grades one through eight and then attended Newman Grove High School. In 1948, she came to China Lake, Calif. for a vacation and while here she applied and was hired to work for Civil Service at the Naval Ordnance Test Station. After 31 years of Civil Service, she retired in June 1979.

Shirley liked playing the piano, roller skating, dancing, and working on the computer. Through the years she attended some college and high school evening classes.

She is survived by 5 nieces and three nephews, and several grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Frank, parents: John and Helen Schwager, brother Howard, sisters: Lucille Herbert, Mae Rieck, and Muriel Bryant.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church, Ridgecrest in the near future. Burial will be at the Ridgecrest Memorial Park.
