‘Read the Book, Meet the Author’ returns

Next program is April 2

Ridge Writers has announced the authors and titles for the group’s 2020 “Read the Book, Meet the Author” series.

Each highly acclaimed author gives one afternoon program, 2 p.m. at My Enchanted Cottage and Tea Room, April 2, May 7, and July 2, (with a bonus on Sept. 3), and a different one in the evening for the Ridge Writers general meeting at Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church, 6:30 p.m.

For the afternoon “Read the Book, Meet the Author,” participants buy and read the designated book in advance, then discuss it with the author over tea and scones.

Scheduled are Veronica Giolli on April 2 with “Whispers in the Wind,” a unique mystery novel with a Native American setting; James A. Ardaiz on May 7 with “Shades of Truth,” a Matt Jamison novel by a former prosecutor, judge, and presiding justice of the California Fifth District Court of Appeals; S. Kay Murphy on July 2 with “The Tainted Legacy of Bertha Gifford: A Memoir,” a riveting true story about the writer’s own grandmother; and David George on Sept. 3 with “Granddad’s Garden: Stories of the Natural World,” a delightful collection to share with grandchildren.

Each event combines the book, tea, scones, conversation with the author, autograph, and entry in a door prize drawing. Tickets for $37 for each event are available at Red Rock Books, 206 W. Ridgecrest Blvd. For more information call the store at 760-375-3454.

Ridge Writers is the East Sierra Branch of the 111-year-old California Writers Club (calwriters.org) that traces its roots back to Jack London and friends in the Bay Area.
