To the Editor: ‘I support Daures Stephens’

My name is Judy Hyatt. I have lived in Kern County since 1974. I was chief of staff for Supervisor Jon McQuiston and traveled extensively throughout the First District. I want to share why I support Daures Stephens for First District Supervisor.

Daures wants to be your supervisor! He believes Accessibility, Accountability, Advocacy are essential for success in an elected office. He knows what is needed and will be consistent in his representation.

I have seen people elected to many positions in all levels of government. Fortunately for all of us, most have a servant’s heart and make a positive and productive difference in the lives of those they serve. Unfortunately, some candidates are just looking for a job. There are political consultants that mold individuals into a public image with philosophies they expound. They will enhance resumes extolling the virtues of a candidate.

If a political entity invests in a candidate, they demand a return on investment. A political machine produces a machine candidate. There is no advocacy, no accountability, no compassion for the people who elect this candidate.

Daures has a servant’s heart. His advocacy for community is well known.

Daures is endorsed by Assemblyman Devon Mathis, 26th Assembly District; former Sheriff Carl Sparks; Kern County probation officers; the Kern County Detention Deputies Union; SEIU; and many community leaders.

Kern County is facing attacks on its economy from Sacramento. Both oil and agriculture (groundwater) are at risk due to environmental goals set by people that never set foot in Kern County. There are alternative solutions (other than a drastic reduction in oil production) to achieve carbon neutrality not yet discussed.

I ask that you please vote Tuesday, March 3. This decision is important for all of us.
