To the Editor: ‘Angry, sad, heartbroken’

Every day I feel assaulted by President Trump. He has undermined military discipline, undermined our justice system, undermined our career diplomats, undermined our confidence in the election system, undermined our belief and care for one another, undermined government transparency by proposing changes to the Freedom of Information Act, undermined our environment by rolling back regulations for clean water and undermining processes required by law such as the National Environmental Policy Act, undermined treaties with other countries such as Iran and eroding the Migratory Bird Treaty, cut funding of important programs such as the Environmental Protection Agency and Energy Department, and generally made the United States the laughingstock of the world.

He praises authoritarian leaders and acts like he would like to become one of them. He denigrates science while touting a commitment to technology to promote our economy. He is monetizing public lands and resources at the expense of protecting them. This is not the country I want or love. I believe in our freedom to live in decent affordable homes, to get an education, to enjoy public lands, to breathe clean air, to drink clean water, to eat uncontaminated food, to be supportive of each other, to strive to meet our potential as unique human beings and to be treated with respect. I am angry, sad, and heartbroken.
