After receiving a tip from from the Internet Crimes Against Children task force, police last month arrested a Ridgecrest man who is facing felony child molestation and child pornography charges. While the investigation is still ongoing, the Ridgecrest Police Department were able to confirm that Erik Wadelin, 51, was arrested on Jan. 29.

According to records, Google contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children after detecting suspected illicit content uploaded to its servers. The NCMEC in turn reported the discovery to ICAC, which tipped off local law enforcement. Investigators connected the suspicious account to Wadelin and his residence in the 100 block of West Church Avenue.

The suspect is facing two felony charges of sexual acts with a child under 14 and three felony charges of possession of child pornography. Wadelin’s preliminary hearing is Feb. 20 in Ridgecrest. His bail is set at $250,000.
