Floyd R. Furnish

Floyd R. FurnishFloyd Rogers Furnish Sr., born on July 8, 1939, in Moline, Ill., passed away Jan. 15, 2020, in Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield. He was 80.

Floyd came to Ridgecrest in 1945 and graduated from Burroughs High School in 1957. His first job after high school was hand-digging holes for the power lines to connect electricity from Trona to Homewood Canyon (at $15 per hole).

He was a local barber for more than 62 years, working alongside his brothers for most of that time. He was also a local rancher for many years, raising and training Arab horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd B. and Julianna B. Furnish, his son Floyd “Tiger” Furnish and his daughter Brenda Furnish Black.

He is survived by his grandson Craig Black, his brothers Dwight Furnish and his wife Vikki, and James “Corky” Furnish and his wife Kay. He is also survived by his nephews Jeffrey, James, and Jason Furnish, nieces Juliana Furnish Blanks, Autumn Furnish, and Kaly Furnish Richmond.

Floyd did not wish to have a service, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation in his honor.
