Grove supports bill to help interpretors for the deaf

California Senate Republican Leader Shannon Grove helped introduce Senate Bill 875, which would allow freelance translators and interpretors to retain their status as independent contractors and enable them to better serve members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Assembly Bill 5, which went into effect this month, eliminated independent contractors from their previous status in many industries. The bill has been heavily criticized by members of numerous industries — some of which have sued for loss of work.

“A bad law has put our hard-of-hearing and deaf communities at risk of not having access to important services,” said Grove.
