NAVFAC looks to hire 200According to a post last Friday by Naval Facilities Engineering Command, NAVFAC Southwest will add 200 civilian positions at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in the coming year.

Phase 1 of the hiring effort will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 540 Perdew Ave., Suite B-2, in Ridgecrest.

The additional workforce is anticipated to aid in recovery efforts following the 6.4- and 7.1-magnitude earthquakes that damaged China Lake infrastructure last summer.

“This is the first time the command has held a rapid hire event in Ridgecrest,” said a spokesperson. The expedited process will allow on-site interviews and on-the-spot job offers to highly qualified candidates.

The last in a series of job-preparation courses, offered through a partnership between NAVFAC and Kern County America’s Job Center, will be held today, Jan. 17, at 3 p.m. Assistance will be provided in helping candidates prepare for résumé and interview success.

Positions are available for electricians, heavy mobile equipment mechanics, painters, sheetmetal mechanics and welders, mid-level architects, planners, installation energy managers, program analysts and weight-handling equipment specialists.
