Police responded to Ridgecrest Cinemas on Sunday, Dec. 29, regarding a van with its windows smashed out. The victim reported that birth certificates, Social Security cards, immunization cards and about $1,000 were missing from the vehicle.

According to a Ridgecrest Police Department press release, officers learned that Zachary Getchey, 21, was a suspect in other similar burglaries near the cinemas.

Officers conducted a parole search of Getchey’s residence where they located the victim’s missing property in Getchey’s bedroom.

Officers also located other items associated with previous burglaries and “a device commonly used to break windows,” said the release.

Police placed a parole hold on Getchey, and he was placed under arrest.

Getchey is facing multiple felony charges of second-degree burglary, grand theft, receiving known stolen property and multiple misdemeanors.

He is being held on $145,000 bail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m. in Ridgecrest.
