Christmas precipitation nears record numbers

Christmas precipitation nears record numbersRainfall during Christmas week obliterated the typical average for December, and even left snow in the upper elevations around the Indian Wells Valley. According to China Lake Weather Forecaster Tamera Walters, the combined precipitation collected Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 was 2.19 inches — eclipsing our .57 average and nearing the 2.52-inch record of 2004. While the valley saw only a dusting of snow, regional storms closed major highways and locked up traffic for days following the post-Christmas snowfall. Walters said she expects fairly dry weather for the next week or so. But she confirmed there’s a chance that our abundance of rain may continue later in the season. — News Review file photo
