Norma Jean Young Bear

Norma Jean Young BearNorma Jean Young Bear of Tama, passed away Dec. 4, 2019, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. She was 80.

Memorial services will be on Dec. 14 in Marshalltown.

Norma was born on Oct. 23, 1939, in Urbandale, Iowa, the daughter of Decoven and Patience Mae (Dagnillo) Zimmerman. She graduated from Urbandale High School in 1957.

On Aug. 29, 1960, she was united in marriage to Terry Young Bear in Oakland. Norma has worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines and operated an in-home daycare in California. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, caring for her home and family. In her free time, Norma loved to sew. She also enjoyed shopping and was an excellent cook. Norma was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Marshalltown.

Survivors include her husband, Terry of Tama; children, Debra Young Bear of Tama, David Young Bear of Tama, Rachel Young Bear of Lake Isabella, and Eric Young of Tama; grandchildren, Decovan Young Bear, Madison (Jose) Henriquez, Jett Mosman, Vaughn Witcher, Ashton Witcher, Devin Young Bear, Niko Joy, Cheyenne Joy, Talon Young Bear, Kianna Young Bear, Olivia Young Bear and Abigail Young Bear; great-grandson, Mason Henriquez; sisters, Kathleen Stewart of Leon, and Jeanette Ellington of Louisiana; and brother, Richard (Terri) Zimmerman of Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be made to Iowa River Hospice.
