A Ridgecrest man was killed last month in a collision on Highway 58 near Bakersfield, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

John Robert “Jack” Minton, 85-year-old Ridgecrest resident, was traveling west on Highway 58 and made a left turn at the State Route 223 interchange. Minton reportedly turned directly into the path of an east-bound Chevrolet and was broadsided.

Both vehicles came to rest on the southern shoulder of Hwy 58, and Minton sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The driver of the Chevy was reportedly uninjured.

CHP is still investigating the incident.
