One killed in Poison Canyon collision

One killed in Poison Canyon collisionA motorist was killed with another sustaining major injuries in a collision on State Route 178 near Poison Canyon last week.

According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol Mojave office, the driver of a Ford Escort, headed westbound approximately three miles east of Trona Road, collided with a Toyota Dolphin RV which was stopped on the north shoulder.

The two occupants of the RV, Rainy Groberg of Eugene, Ore. and Megan Carey of Salem Ore. were reportedly standing on the shoulder near the front of the RV when the collision occurred. Carey, 27, was reportedly unharmed but Groberg, 30, was transferred to Antelope Valley Hospital for major injuries and complaints of pain in both her legs. The driver of the Escort, 46-year-old Trona resident Jose Rodriguez, was unrestrained and thrown from his vehicle. He reportedly succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. CHP is asking for anyone with information regarding the collision to contact CHP’s Bishop Dispatch Center, 760-872-5900.
