Marguerite Dorothy ‘Marge’ Mayfield

Marguerite Dorothy “Marge” Thurman Mayfield passed away Nov. 1, 2019.

Marge was born June 22, 1936, in Los Angeles to Frank and Violet Thurman. She spent her childhood taking in stray animals and helping her mother breed dogs along with her two brothers Leon and Frank and her sister Lois.

She met her husband and moved to Ridgecrest in 1963. She was an animal lover from birth and always dreamed of owning a farm. Her husband helped her fulfill that dream when they moved to Inyokern in 1969 and purchased 20 acres. There she spent many years surrounded by her sons, grandchildren and animals whom she loved. She had a passion for helping people and spent several years as a nurses’ aide in the nursery and as a LVN at Ridgecrest Community Hospital. Later she spent several years as Dr. Clark’s nurse at the Trona Clinic and provided in-home health care in the valley.

She is preceded in death by her brother Leon Thurman, husband Richard Orlando Mayfield, sons John Michael Mayfield and Charles Robert Mayfield and grandson Michael Jolly.

She is survived by her brother Frank Thurman; sister Lois Herron; son Richard Orlando Mayfield, Jr. and his wife Cathie Mayfield; niece Karen Lose; granddaughters Stacey Bradley, Rikki Haskins and Candace Jolly; grandson Nathan Jolly and eight great-grandchildren. Her family will miss her more than words can say and are very grateful they got to call her theirs for 83 years. They are also thankful that her arch-nemesis, Mrs. Wheeler, died before her and Marge won.

A Celebration of Life was held Friday, Nov. 8, at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
