Growers file claim

At press time, the News Review received notice that Mojave Pistachios and a coalition of local farmers filed on Nov. 19 to “impose a physical solution amongst nine users in the Indian Wells Valley Groundwater Basin to preserve and protect the basin’s water supply, the investment-backed expectations of agriculture and the economy that is dependent upon that supply.

“While the region will benefit from the successful implementation of the proposed physical solution, the farmers are not seeking a comprehensive adjudication or quantification of all rights to groundwater in the basin. They are seeking a focused cooperative approach among groundwater users to avoid harm. Additionally, they are seeking a court delcaration that they individually posess overlying rights to groundwater sufficient for existing and expected future use.”
