Museum to host harp concert

Museum to host harp concertThe Maturango Museum continues its concert series with harpist Alexandra Calvert performing Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m.

Calvert will perform musical selections with selected photographs by Amy Madson projected on the screen in a multisensory concert, entitled “In my life: a musical journey from Monteverdi to Margaritaville.”

The program includes music composed by Praetorius, J.S. Bach, Paris Alvars, Saint-Saens, Britten, Samuel-Rousseau, Fauré, Sylvia Woods, the Beatles, Jimmy Buffet and Yaz.

The classically trained harpist specializes in French romantic and baroque music, although her repertoire extends into contemporary genres.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in performance from Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. With a background of performing with organ, wind ensemble, orchestra, choir and chamber groups, Calvert is now pursuing a solo career that highlights the history and possibilities of the harp while bringing focus on visual art as well.

Early ticket purchase is encouraged. General admission is $20, with a reduced price of $5 for children 12 and younger.

Tickets are available at the museum store or online at shop.maturango.org.
