Wreaths Across America to return to Ridgecrest

The Panamint Springs Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will bring the Wreaths Across America program back to Ridgecrest this year to lay wreaths on the graves of veterans at rest at Desert Memorial Park.

A wreath may be sponsored by an individual, organization or business with a tax-deductible donation of $15.

The event will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec.14, at the cemetery.

Local volunteers coordinate the effort as part of the Wreaths Across America mission to “Remember the fallen; honor those who serve and their families; teach future generations about the sacrifices made to preserve our freedoms.”

If you wish $5 of the $15 wreath cost to be sent back as a contribution to local nonprofit groups, please indicate so on your form or by clicking the group at the online site, thus allowing a portion of the monies to support the local community.

This year’s theme is “Everyone plays a part.”

“The millions of volunteers and supporters – from schoolchildren and educators, professional truck drivers, first responders, veterans, Gold Star and Blue Star families to corporations and nonprofits — devote much of themselves to the mission to Remember, Honor, Teach,” said a spokesperson.

“Each of them plays a part in helping to plan and participate in local events and fundraising activities, sponsor and transport wreaths, and raise awareness.”

“The Wreaths Across America program, strives to ensure that the lives of our men and women in uniform are remembered,” said Kelly McDonald, site coordinator. “We believe it is our responsibility as Americans, to do our part by sharing their stories of service and sacrifice with the next generation.”

Donations can be made at wreathsaccrossamerica .org/CA0399P. The last day to donate is Dec. 2.
