Hewer celebrates 50 years at China Lake

Hewer celebrates 50 years at China LakeGary A. Hewer is honored for 50 years of service at China Lake by NAWCWD commander Rear Adm. Scott Dillon. Hewer came onboard in 1968; since then, he has built a career in mathematics equations and wave analysis. He has authored more than 40 technical papers and shared in two patents, while earning the Michelson Laboratory Award in 1994, the Technology Advancement Group Award in 1994, the Navy Meritorious Civil Service Award in 1998 and the L.T.E. Thompson Award in 2000. He was inducted as a NAVAIR Fellow in 2002 for his work in signal and image processing. During the Oct. 15 ceremony, Hewer said that after 50 years, it’s time to start thinking about retirement, as he has a list of things he would like to do with his wife. But his team at China Lake makes him want to stay at least part-time and continue the work. — U.S. Navy photo by Paul Kakert
