Gordon was born July 31, 1927, in Mitchell, S.D., to Carlos and Elsa Scallin. In 1940 his family moved to Salinas, where Gordon graduated from Salinas Union High School after lettering in basketball and boxing.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served on the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV41) until he was honorably discharged in 1946. Gordon was a plank owner and was present during the christening in 1945. He was very proud of being a World War II veteran and serving his country.

Gordon later married the love of his life, Barbara (Bobbie) E. Elliot, on Oct. 5, 1946. With the help and encouragement of his wife, and the G.I. Bill, Gordon graduated with a B.A. degree from the California College of Arts in 1951. Upon graduation, they moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he worked for the U.S Air Force as a technical illustrator in the Graphic Arts Department. He eventually became art director and supervisor in his department.

During this time, he joined the National Guard, 36 Division, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. In 1955, he transferred to the Army Reserves as a captain. When he returned to Amarillo, he was promoted to art director and supervisor of the Technical Writing Branch.

With Amarillo Air Force Base closing, the family moved to Ridgecrest in 1965. Gordon worked as a supervisor for the Technical Illustration Section of the Technical Information Department at China Lake Naval Weapons Center. Before his retirement in 1983, he promoted to supervisor of the Illustration and Design Branch, working a total of 35 years for the Department of Defense.

Gordon and Bobbie toured the United States for one year in their Airstream, visiting family and friends. They later moved to Las Vegas in 1984. They also vacationed to Europe where Gordon enjoyed playing golf and managed to shoot his age, 81 while making a birdie on the St. Andrews Old Course, in Scotland.

Gordon was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved getting together with family, and will be greatly missed by all.

Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie; his sons, Gordon Scallin and Stephen Scallin; his parents, Carlos and Elsa Scallin; his brother, Carl Scallin; his sister, Sharon Amsden; his nephew, Johnny and his niece, Barbara.
