To the Editor: Support Ridgecrest Cinemas

Regarding the proposed movie theater at China Lake Boulevard and Rader, I think it’s important that the new theater add to the selection of movies, not drive the Ridgecrest Cinemas out of business. The Ridgecrest Cinemas have served Ridgecrest for 35 years. During that time, they have served the popular taste as well as making available ground-breaking films such as the Malcolm X biopic and a documentary about transgender soldiers in the military.

The appetite for movies in this town is enough to support a new cinema and, perhaps, keep us from going to Lancaster for movies. But, now that the theater is making so much new and creative programming available (throwback movies, costume contests, and more) while recovering from the earthquake and a robbery, let’s support it no matter what new theater comes along.
