To the Editor: YES seeks sponsors

The Young Engineers and Scientists (YES!) of Ridgecrest are sponsoring their ninth annual YES! Conference Saturday, Sept. 28.

The YES! Conference is a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) workshop geared toward sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade boys, but the conference accepts all middle school students interested in learning. Through fun and exciting hands-on workshops, participants are introduced to various applications of math and science in their everyday lives. The workshops, led by some of the local scientists and engineers, help to encourage interest in both traditional and nontraditional STEM fields, as well as education in general.

Last year YES! had a record 147 students participating in the conference. This year we hope to break that record, but need help to do so. This community’s contributions in the past have been invaluable in allowing this worthwhile STEM event to continue to grow. As the YES! Planning Committee kicks off our 2019 fundraising season, we humbly ask that you please consider sponsoring this year’s event. The fundraising goal for 2019 is $4,000, and all donations we receive go directly to helping to pay for things like workshop expenses, lunches, T-shirts and student informational packets.

The YES! Conference could not be what it is today without support from members of this community, and for that we are continuously grateful. If you are interested in donating to the 2019 YES! Conference, or helping out in any fashion, please email yes.ridgecrest@gmail.com for more information.
