Meet the new SSUSD administration lineupSierra Sands Unified School District welcomed an unprecedented number of changing roles within its leadership team at a workshop held this week in preparation for the new year. From left are (front) SSUSD Superintendent Dr. David Ostash, Burroughs High School Principal Carrie Cope, BHS Assistant Principal Sandra Castro and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Bryan Auld, (back) Murray Middle School Principal Cody Pearce, BHS Assistant Principal Chris Osterman, Special Education Program Manager Mike Kennedy, Pierce Elementary School Principal Shyanne Ledford, Monroe Middle School Principal John Cosner, Las Flores Elementary School Principal Sarah Tate, Inyokern Elementary School Principal Beverly Ewbank and Director of Student Support Kevin Wythe. “What’s really exciting about this year is that although our leadership team is composed of people with depth of talent and experience, having so many people in new positions means we are well-poised for innovation,” said Ostash. “Having such a long history of experience in education gives us the continuity that will reinforce our mission to provide a valuable education to the children of our community, but I know that many members of our team are bringing to their positions a fresh analysis that will refine our best practices.” With the retirement of previous Superintendent Ernie Bell, as well as those in many other high-level positions in the district, Sierra Sands promoted and recruited a host of new principals and administrators who will help kick off the 2019-20 school year. — Photo by Laura Austin
