CLMRG performed search and rescue operationsIn one of many recent assists, the China Lake Mountain Rescue Group responds to an effort to help search the Mount Whitney Trail Camp on June 22. On June 16 Inyo County Sheriff’s Office requested help in finding missing hiker Dao Ling fom Virginia. A team from CLMRG searched all day near Mt. Whitney east of Trail Crest, at 12,600 feet in elevation, before being chased out by snow and thunderstorms. Teams from CLMRG, Inyo SAR and the U.S. Park Service located Ling’s body later that week. The request for help with the Trail Camp search came on June 22. The CLMRG team assisted by Sequoia-Kings/Canyon Rangers deployed in the early morning hours and reached the three subjects who were attempting a day-hike, but were forced to spend the night at Trail Crest. The three suffered mild hypothermia and acute mountain sickness. During that same time period, CLMRG teams also helped in multiple searches for people who went missing in the Kern River. — Courtesy photo
