Sherman Pass Road reopens for summer

KERNVILLE RANGER DISTRICT — This winter’s welcome and vital snowpack has delayed the opening of some major forest recreation access roads and trails. One of those major access roads is the Sherman Pass Road on the Kern Plateau of the Sequoia National Forest.

Sherman Pass (Road #22S05) is a major connector road winding its way from east to west across the Kern Plateau, joining Highway 395 to its east and Mountain 99 (Kern River) to its west.

Above-normal snowpack has kept all off-highway-vehicle trails, and many side roads, on the Kern Plateau closed at this time.

Cherry Hill Road (#22S12) is open to Horse Meadow Campground, Big, True and, Cannell Meadows and to Pine Flat.

Access to the Blackrock Trailhead and Monache are not open at this time.

Conditions change daily. Please Call the Kernville Ranger District Office at 760-376-3781, 7 days a week at 760-376-3781. The Blackrock Visitor Center is open Thursday through Monday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 pm.
