James Michael Starr II

James Michael Starr II passed away from natural causes at his Ridgecrest home on May 19, 2019. He was 44 years old.

James was born in Camarillo on March 23, 1975. He worked as a customer service advisor at Jim Charlon Ford from 2006 to 2018, then worked for Toyota of Ridgecrest from September 2018 to May 2019.

Jim grew up in Oxnard. He attended Rio Mesa High School, where he was well known for his athletic ability. He was a three-sport athlete, playing football, baseball and wrestling. He received many athletic and academic awards during his high school years. He went on to play football at Ventura College and then at the University of Redlands.

Jim moved to Ridgecrest in 2006 and affectionately referred to it as living in “The Crest.”

He quickly adapted to living on the desert and enjoyed the friendly small-town atmosphere. Jim loved to do many different things in his life but a constant joy was found in his love of barbecuing for his friends, telling jokes, connecting people and making new friends.

Jim was a very generous person with a big heart. Whether he knew you for years or just met you, he would give you the shirt off of his back.

He was a trusted loyal friend and a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin. He will definitely be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather Karen and Randal Smith of Ridgecrest; father and stepmother James and Marisol Starr of Oxnard; siblings Sarah Starr of Ventura, Isaiah Starr of Oxnard, Elijah Starr of Oxnard and Cristyn Smith-LoPresti of Ridgecrest; nephews Jack and Jay Corrigan of Ventura; aunts and uncles Patricia Leadbetter of Oxnard, Maryann Hansen of Oxnard, Devra Work of Livonia, Mich., Karen Hyson of Greer, N.C., Laurie Baca Clark of Greer, Jayne of Fenstermaker, Ariz., Jeff Starr of Oxnard and David Starr of New Hampshire; and many cousins and friends that he held close to his heart.

A memorial service and reception were held on Saturday, June 8.
